comet, a real Witness, to put it in a nutshell, is one who believes that the GB is the FDS.So you believe God is directing the gb? On all decisions? Some? Allowing them to be wrong? Directing them to be wrong? I'm not trying to be sarcastic or snarky, I once believed in god directing the gb. Just curious as to your thoughts. -

RealWitness, there are less than a handful of real Witnesses here, me being one of them, and the admins are not Witnesses.
What is a real witness? someone who is active and reports time? Goes to meetings? Doesn't visit apostate websites? Believes witness doctrine is actual truth? Watcher, what is the answer?

How hard is it to attend a congregation outside of the territory where you live? Consequences for doing so.
by hoser ini need to change congregation but stay living in the same place.

I think less than 50% of the people in my hall live in the territory. I didn't realize this was still a taboo thing. -

What if we could bring down the WBTS?
by derangedjdub inwhat would be your plan or ideal reason the walls came crashing down?

Just to echo most of the other comments on this thread..it can't ever be totally brought down. It's a business with free labor and zero taxes. The business model they had for many years, publishing company, stopped being viable. Even though they were/are slow to realize this, they have morphed into a real estate company. It seems to me they have amassed enough real estate holdings to keep them going for many decades. The notion of some doctrinal change/shift will cause people to leave is wrong imo. Yes a few will leave, but for the most part, the people who contribute money, the U.S. Western Europe etc. doctrine doesn't matter to them as a whole. I beat the "no one cares about doctrine" drum often, because in urban liberal areas it's the truth, 85% don't know and don't really care. -

But, today, we’re living in a time where Jehovah’s people as a whole can never be corrupted.
What's the evidence to support that statement? You're not going to find that in the bible. It's like saying, I can't be wrong, because I'm right. It seems like this is more for people in the know, and for ones at corporate HQ. I think your average jw isn't really going to understand what they're saying. If you know what's going on though the message is clear, forget about all the bad things, it doesn't mean we're wrong. If you don't you're leaving jehovah.

TRUE STORY Christian Longo Movie
by JWdaughter inhas anyone seen this movie about christian longo and his adventures in id theft?

Just finished watching it. It was an interesting story, they didn't really talk about the fact that he was a jw, just a brief mention of it. While they mentioned he was raised a witness they showed a drawing, presumably by longo, of a cross. At first I thought, well that's dumb, witnesses don't believe in the cross. Then I realized, most people don't know that, so I guess it was just an easy way to show he grew up in a reglious home. Overall I'd give the movie a B. Wait for the dvd -

How to change some significance of 1914.
by sloppyjoe2 ini first do not think they will change anything about 1914 for at least 20 or more years but one day it will have to happen.
since 1914 is their meal ticket and they have it in print prior to the year happening, they will never abandon the year altogether.
they have too much tied into 1914-1919 as well as have held onto it for too long.

Overall it's a pretty decent idea. I mean you could bury that in paragraph 8 of some random watchtower study, and If I was an average jw, I'd probably wouldn't even notice. -

Impossible conversation: Jesus and Nicodemus: YOU MUST BE BORN AGAIN
by Terry ini am a member on new testament scholar bart ehrman's blog, and the professor is currently outlining a new book he is writing about false memory and the life of jesus.. an interesting post occurred today in which he gives an example of a very famous scripture,.
example of a false memory of jesus teaching i turn to a famous passage in the gospel of john, jesus dialogue with nicodemus (john 3:1-15).
nicodemus is said to be a jewish leader who comes up to jesus and affirms that jesus must come from god because of the great things that he said to have done.

Very interesting, I really enjoy these Bart Ehrman posts. I have to thank you terry for introducing his work to me. My wife and I bought several of his books recently and have really been loving reading and discussing them. his book, misquoting Jesus, is an amazing read that I'd recommend to anyone questioning the bible -

Witnesses don't discuss doctrine period. Even during the watchtower study or congregation "bible" study, doctrine isn't really discussed. Read the paragraph, ask the question, quick answer that is just rereading the paragraph, then move on. Ive been just sitting here thinking for about 5 minutes and I can't think of a single witness, under 30, that would even begin to know how to talk about anything more than elementary doctrine.
